Keyboard macros make it possible to automate repetitive tasks. You can start to record a macro, at which point each key press is recorded, this sequence can then be played back multiple times.

    Recording a macro

The toolbar contains the 'Record Macro' command icon , this is enabled when a text editor has focus.

When clicked a macro recording is started and additional commands are shown

     - Pause macro recording, temporarily stops the macro recording, pressing this again re-starts recording

     - Stop macro recording, ends this macro recording, making it available to be played back.

     - Cancel macro recording, cancels the recording, discarding the current recording.

The 'Record Macro' command can also be invoked using the keyboard short cut Ctrl-Shift-R.

    Replaying a macro

Once a macro has been recorded the playback icon  is visible on the toolbar.

Pressing this will playback the previously recorded macro. The same macro can be replayed multiple times.

The 'Replay Macro' command can also be invoked using the keyboard short cut Ctrl-Shift-P.
